AWS Committees


AWS initiatives are addressed through special committees designed to meet the needs of the membership and the surgical community. All members benefit from the experience and wisdom gained from serving on these committees. Participation is encouraged, and the success of AWS depends on it. Contact the AWS office for more information or to join a committee. AWS committees include:

Academic Practice

The mission of the AWS Academic Practice Committee is to identify and address concerns specific to the area of academic practice.

Awards

The mission of the Awards Committee is to oversee the annual AWS Foundation and AWS Awards process.

Career Development

The mission of the Career Development Committee is to develop and implement programs that will assist AWS members helping them to advance their professional career.

Chapter Development & Liaison

The mission of the AWS Chapter Development & Liaison Committee is to support and encourage the formation of chapters of AWS members.

Grants & Fellowships

The mission of the AWS Grants & Fellowships Committee is to oversee the annual AWS Foundation/Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. and Genomic Health Research Grants and the Visiting Professor Program.

Liaison/Networking

The mission of the AWS Liaison/Networking Committee is to identify and arrange networking events outside of the annual meeting.

Membership

The mission of the AWS Membership Committee is to encourage surgeons to join AWS, and to oversee new member recruitment and orientation and membership retention efforts.

Private Practice

The mission of the AWS Private Practice Committee is to identify and address concerns specific to the area of private practice.

The mission of the AWS Resident Committee is to develop resources to support and promote women in surgical residency programs.

Student

The mission of the AWS Student Committee is to develop resources to support, educate and inspire women medical students pursuing a career in surgery
