In the Spring, there are lots of new fresh veggies that begin to appear on the supermarket shelves. In summer, there are cherries, watermelon and peaches to quench our hunger. Even in fall, apples and squash add healthy alternatives. But in the middle of winter? What do we do to continue being healthy in the setting of our busy lives?
Chantal Reyna, a practicing breast surgeon, and Grace deHoff, a busy medical student, provide lots of quick healthy ways to stay on track despite the winter doldrums. (and if you missed this month’s blog – Jean Miner provided lots of good advice in her post Dinner Thoughts?)
In our Mentor Spotlight, Arizona medical students Simin Golestani and Hilary McCrary reached out to Taylor Riall – chief of surgical oncology at University of Arizona. Taylor combated burn out by becoming a professional coach – something she applies to her practice, that of her division as well as to residents and medical students.
While the AWS highlights differences in Pay Parity – we often forget how far we have come. Yuksel Altinel tells her about her personal Journey to Become a Surgeon in Turkey. Yuksel faced opposition to her choice of specialty, to her professional judgement and abuse from her patients. A poignant reminder about issues our colleagues around the world still face to have the right to be a surgeon.
