Our mission on the AWS National Medical Student Committee is to support your exploration and interest in a surgical career by providing you resources, mentorship, and organizational opportunities. Our leadership is comprised of 15 committee members who each come from different regions of the US and other countries. Each committee member serves as a regional representative to the AWS chapters with each medical school.
We generate and update guides created by our committee members for success in your surgical clerkships, research, and the interview process. We hope you strongly consider AWS as a foundation for pursuing your surgical careers.
The AWS National Medical Student Committee last year has paved the way for new exciting initiatives such as the AWS Day of Service and a surgical mentorship-pairing program.
There are currently 80 active AWS medical student chapters located nationally and internationally. Each of our medical student chapters has created unique and engaging experiences for medical students at their home institutions last year. We have also been expanding regional AWS events for students, residents, and faculty members to facilitate additional networking opportunities for students.
Our goal for this upcoming year is to continue to grow our AWS medical student chapter network globally. We encourage our members to become involved in starting new chapters to empower other women interested in surgery. Every member of the committee works to support each chapter and common goals shared by medical student members.
If you are interested in getting involved with the Student Committee or any of AWS's other committees, please fill out the committee interest form.
