Help us support women experiencing homelessness in San Francisco. This year, AWS is supporting Raphael House by collecting donations at Annual Conference in San Francisco, October 26-29.

We all have clothes that we wore once and hope they will fit one day, never wore again, don't know what to do with. Now is your chance to bring those items of clothing to AWS. We will have bins for donation throughout the conference. You just need to add your item(s) of clothing to your suitcase, bring them to the conference, and we will do the rest.

Specifically, these women could most benefit from professional clothing of any size, as well as professional shoes (size 7.5-10). These can be lightly used, but should be clean. Raphael House families could also use: new kids' underwear, leggings, sweatpants and pajamas (any size, boys/girls).

Raphael House supports women and families experiencing homelessness strengthen family bonds by achieving stable housing and financial independence. Established in 1971, Raphael House began as an emergency shelter for single mothers and their children. Since its inception, Raphael House has been at the forefront of providing homeless and low-income families in the San Francisco Bay Area the personalized family-centered solutions they need to build brighter futures. With family homelessness increasing by at least 10% annually, Raphael House has now embarked on a plan to expand services to reach an additional 200 families over the next three years. That's 500 families—nearly 2,000 individuals—who will directly benefit from our program on an annual basis. Their success rate is unmatched: more than 85% of all Raphael House families go on to achieve long-term housing and financial stability.

Throughout its history, Raphael House has received several prestigious management awards, including the John R. May Award from the San Francisco Foundation, the Management Center's Award for Excellence in Non-Profit Management and the Sara Lee Leadership Award.

Raphael House focuses on success, dignity, diversity, family and partnership. They believe in the power of self-determination and know that every individual is capable of defining and achieving their own success. We promote personal accountability, honesty and ownership. Raphael House sees homelessness as a temporary state that doesn't define a person. They provide women and families an opportunity to take ownership of their futures and improve the quality of their lives through a nurturing and supportive process that emphasizes the importance of strong families and personal dignity.

Their mission is closely tied to AWS's mission, which focuses on inspiring, encouraging and enabling women surgeons to realize their professional and personal goals. We hope to contribute to the inspiration, encouragement and enabling of other women who are experiencing homelessness in the city we are all visiting for the 2019 AWS Annual Conference, San Francisco.
