Each year, the American Journal of Surgery publishes an issue highlighting work from members of AWS. We are pleased to announce the call for manuscript titles and abstracts as well as the full timeline for next year's issue, which will be published in October 2020.

Authors are invited to submit a working title and abstract (limit of 1,000 characters) for their article by December 31, 2019, along with information about the study type.

Timeline Following Title/Abstract Submission

December 31, 2019: Due date for manuscript titles and abstracts (1,000-character limit).

In order to create a balanced issue that meets the interest of our readership and organization, the AWS-AJS editors will select a certain number of articles for full submission based on the number of submissions received, article type, and subject matter.

Early January 2020: Call for manuscript reviewers opens.

January 15: Those selected to submit full articles will be notified of their acceptance.

February 8: Call for manuscript reviewers closes.

February 15: Due date for articles selected for full submission (one month for manuscript submission from invitation).

February 15 - April 1: Manuscripts will be sent to reviewers and returned to authors for any required revisions on a rolling basis. All manuscripts requiring revision will be returned to the authors no later than April 1.

May 1: Revisions will be due (one month for revisions).

May 15: Re-reviews will be due (two-week turnaround).

Mid-June: Final decisions for inclusion in the 2020 AWS issue of AJS will be made by this date.

Late June 2020: Final due date for all completed and re-reviewed manuscripts.

Due to the nature of this special issue, final decisions regarding manuscripts will NOT be made until all manuscripts have been reviewed and authors have had an opportunity to revise and resubmit.
