Research Madness

AWS Research Madness: Road to AWS 2020
Call for Medical Student/Resident and Fellow Abstracts!

The Association of Women Surgeons is has transitioned our medical student/resident research competition to a virtual format: AWS Research Madness: Road to AWS 2020.

This virtual format will allow for a innovative multi-round research symposium, featuring the work of talented AWS trainees from July to September 2020!

AWS Research Madness is an exciting opportunity for students, residents and fellow members of AWS to showcase their work to a wide, international audience. Featuring multiple "rounds" of abstracts and presentations, authors will have the unique opportunity to vary the platform through which their research is provided.

  • Round 1: This round will consist of visual abstract submissions, to be voted on through social media platforms and the AWS network at-large (July 13-18).
  • Round 2: Successful abstracts will advance to round 2, a dynamic, online series of 3-minute "Quickshot" presentations (August 4-7).
  • Round 3: Authors will advance to 8-minute oral presentations (September 1-5).
  • Round 4: The top four authors will be invited to a special Q&A session on September 28th and awarded with cash prizes and an invitation to submit your work to American Journal of Surgery (optional).

The deadline for visual abstract submission is June 26 at 11:59pm ET. Successful applicants will be informed shortly thereafter.

Questions? Please contact awsmedstudentcommittee@gmail.com

Note: The first or last author must be an AWS member to be eligible. Abstracts presented at other conferences are allowed, except for abstracts that you plan to present at the ACS conference. You may not send an abstract on a project that is published prior to submission. All abstracts/presentations will briefly be available online through AWS, but will be removed promptly following completion of voting. Presentations will be pre-recorded for rounds 2 and 3, and authors will only be required in Round 4.

Recognition and a monetary prize will be awarded for the top presentations.

Thank you and we look forward to reviewing your submissions!
