Applications are now open to host the 2023 AWSF Visiting Professor!

The Kim Ephgrave Visiting Professor Program provides training institutions the opportunity to host top women surgeons as speakers, heightening the visibility of women surgeons and encouraging women medical students to pursue similar careers. 

Preference will be given to those institutions in which women represent a significant minority of the department. Both community and university training programs are encouraged to apply now for this opportunity.

Presenting the 2023 AWSF Visiting Professor

The Association of Women Surgeons is pleased to announce Kimberly M. Lumpkins, MD MBA FACS FRCS(Eng) as the 2023 Kim Ephgrave Visiting Professor!

Dr. Lumpkins is Surgeon in Chief of the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital. She completed her pediatric surgical training at the Johns Hopkins/University of Maryland combined fellowship, and subsequently trained in pediatric urology at the Birmingham Children's Hospital NHS Trust in the United Kingdom. She is a graduate of the executive MBA program at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, and now serves as a faculty affiliate of the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets at Smith. Dr. Lumpkins was awarded the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons Gold Medal in 2015, was named a Maryland Top 100 Woman in 2021 by the Daily Record, and is a 2022 Association of Women Surgeons Signature Speaker.

Dr. Lumpkins provides lectures in the following topic areas:

  • Personal mission statement
  • Time management
  • Creating organizational change
  • Hiring and interviewing
