Call for Nominations

The Association of Women Surgeons Nominating Committee is seeking self-nominations to serve as officers on the AWS Executive Committee beginning in September 2026. The officer positions to be elected this fall include:

  • President-Elect
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Director of Collaborations

AWS regular surgeon members in good standing serving or having served on the Council are encouraged to apply. Special requirements apply to President-Elect and Vice President.

All members who wish to apply for an Executive Council officer position shall submit:

  • A Curriculum Vitae
  • A personal photograph
  • The Candidate Statement should include:
    • A detailed outline of her detailed past service the AWS, to include length of membership, attendance at the annual conference, and prior service to the organization
    • A description of the qualifications she will bring to the position, including related experience
    • An attestation of commitment to completion of the requirements of the position
    • Statement of vision for AWS
  • The name of a person not serving on the Nominating Committee with good knowledge of the nominee’s leadership skills to serve as a resource and reference.

 

Nominations deadline is May 21, 2026, 5:00 PM EASTERN.

Position Details:

  • The office of the President-Elect and Vice President are one-year terms, while the position of Secretary is a two-year term.
  • To be considered for the Vice-President position, the nominee must have served as either the Secretary or Treasurer.
  • To be considered for the position of President-Elect, the nominee must have served as Vice-President.
  • To be considered for a position on the Executive Committee, the nominee must be a regular surgeon member in good standing and have served as a committee chair or liaison previously on Council.

Executive Committee Requiring Vote:

  • President-Elect
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Director of Collaborations

Positions not requiring a Vote:

  • President: Simone 
  • Immediate Past President 
  • Secretary
  • Past President 
  • Foundation Chair
  • ACS Governor

 

We will be utilizing the two-thirds vote of voting members present at the AWS Business Meeting on Friday, September 25 for the election of the slate. Electronic polling will occur to record the voting of those present. Please feel free to direct any questions or concerns to [email protected].
